Jack Surran began his study of photography at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in Glassboro N.J. where he received his B.A. in Art Education in 1971. He worked as an elementary art teacher for two years and then left teaching to pursue his photographic career at Krantzen-Goold Studios in New York.

In September of 1974 Jack began teaching photography at Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, N.J. and continued instructing young photographers until his retirement in June 2004. In 1985 he earned his Masters degree in Visual Art/ Photography from William Paterson College in Wayne, N.J. and became an adjunct professor at Bergen Community College in Paramus, N.J. teaching photography and computer imaging. He also works as a freelance still life photographer specializing in catalog, advertising, and computer imaging work for several
clients.

In 2002, four of Jack's flower photographs were selected for
the book "Flora" Published by Graphis.

Jack's work as an art educator and photographer were recognized by the Geraldine R. Dodge foundation with a fellowship in 2000.

Jack's personal photographic explorations are in the
area of traditional photographic images, digital imaging,
photo-collage, and digital enhancements. He has exhibited throughout the Northern N.J. and New York City area.

Jack lives in Westwood, N.J. with his wife Bernadette.
